a chamber orchestra exploring new possibilities for Classical and early Romantic music

This dynamic new ensemble brings together young professionals from all over the world to perform Classical and Romantic repertoire on period instruments. The orchestra is led from the violin by Rebecca Huber, who has undertaken extensive research into the role of the principal violinist as director in the Classical and Romantic eras. By working without a conductor, we generate a thrilling energy in our performances. With an aim to re-examine the social structure of the modern-day orchestra using historically-informed performing practices, les vents atlantiques transforms the ethos of the symphony orchestra to that of a chamber ensemble. We work to foster a performing environment in which we each take responsibility for our own musical function, communicating and negotiating amongst ourselves in the manner of a chamber music group. With musicians from countries ranging from Argentina, America, Australia, Canada, Japan and throughout Europe, the group benefits from a wealth of diverse musical experiences. Members of the orchestra have played in major period-instrument ensembles throughout the world, including The Wallfisch Band, The European Union Baroque Orchestra, The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, the Jeune Orchestre Atlantique, New Dutch Academy, The Bach Choir and Orchestra of the Netherlands, Mercury Baroque, The Royal Wind Players, Montréal Baroque, NJO and L’Arpeggiata, amongst others. Les Vents Atlantiques offers an engaging performing platform for the new generation of period performers.
